Procrastination can be one of the biggest factors preventing you from completing your tasks, which is why you should avoid it at all times.
Tips to stop procrastination:
- Make the task easy to understand. Break it down it simple steps if the task if too complex
- Remove all your distractions so you can focus on the task
- Count down from 5. At 0 you take action right away. This way you are prepared to take action, but can't come up with an excuse not to do it.
- Use Parkinson’s law. set a deadline and you will likely be done when the deadline reaches.
- Begin small. don't make it too challenging for yourself, especially not in the beginning (unless you like challenges of course).
- Provide little friction to start. At first, just do something to make the task easier to start. For example, just put on your running shoes without intending to run.
- Tell yourself that you will only do it for 5 minutes and then do something else. Often when you're working on it, you keep going.
- make a planning for your breaks, so you can start working knowing when you can have a relaxing break.
